MAMA LIED By Adepoju Isaiah

Written by Editor

Mama Lied, all those decades,

She lied that when people

Open their teeth, they are happy

But they hide their fangs

behind their teeth and scorn my soul,

Mama Lied, she said love is a bed of roses,

But it has deprived me of countless nights,

It plunged me out of my faintest slumber,

Now, those feelings begin to make my heart decay.

Mama Lied, she said, when you are happy

You dance to your house,

But now, when I give the faintest smile,

My name is on the tablet of witches.

Mama Lied, she said, life is sweet

And full of helpers,

But the world I see is armed with

All barbaric weapons,

And friends are holding the tilt hard on my back,

I hope Mama comes to tell me she lied,

That the world is never a bed of roses.
