DEAR HOPE By Oyewole Barakat

Written by Editor

Patience – the only ingredient

That can boil stone until it becomes soft.

We’ve waited patiently in pain and hunger,

Counting every seconds, which seems like an hour.

Day three passed like a bad hair day:

Holding tummy and sleeping during the day.

Belike, sleeping should cease today’s hunger,

If only time could run faster.

It was a relief to hear about relief materials,

Then, we heard: it had been distributed in some unknown areas,

Neither do our hands feel;

Nor do starving heal.

Surely, man will definitely die in the end!

Perhaps, it’s time we waved the white flag – we’ve been defeated

By hunger, and wait patiently till we’ve been starved,

Since going out for our daily bread have been deprived.
