AN AGONY FROM THE OTHER SIDE By Ajíbádé Abdullah Pentalk

Written by Bada Yusuf Amoo

Those nights, those afternoons,
In a garment of doubting hopes
She resists the hunting of the hunter’s gun
Luckily,

There was a hunt,
she becomes two in a soul,
for 36weeks,
She stomachs
a living,
she holds tight
and Raises no fright.

In every frying sun
of every single day,
she hawks,
to please the mouth.
Despite being two in single

The last day of the last week of the 9 moons,
She lands in a hospital,
For the second soul wants a taste of fresh breathes.

Her soul hangs between head and anus,
Doctor says operation
Is the best solution,
Husband doesn’t know the A,B,C
of the situation,
he only roam door to door in confusion.

Miraculously,
She gives birth to a baby man
Without the intervention of knives
All thanks to him
the creator.

No money, no food,
New born feeds
On sour breasts
Of emptiness
Husband goes early
and comes late,
Nothing to show.

She is a woman
of myriad hopes,
she never stops
to survive,
with torn clothes
she pampers as wears,
She keeps moving in strictly anticipation
of what the future holds.

Always,
After several marathons
helter skelter,
to fend for food,
at dusk she often feels tired, ready to relax,

The hunter knocks again,
in furious cover,
Hungering to have
a rematch,
Of the final played long ago,

In spite many pages of beatings,
Yet she withstands.

Days after days,
Years after years,
the net never concedes,
another goal.

Hunter goes away,
Living her in disarray,
but she never goes astray,
Instead chases failure away.

Thrice ten years after,
the boy becomes wealthy,
Marries a beautiful wife,
And birth a beautiful daughter in a short period of time

This is a joy
For a mother
Who, once whine,
And dine in poverty

On his journey to his thirty first year of birth
He receives the call of death, his wife and daughter all accompany him

Mother cries,
Cries and cries.

What really is the joy of motherhood?

For this is an agony from the other side
