LOVE SONG By Deji Adeoti

Written by Editor

(For Omolade Adesewa)

Adesewa!

The daughter of rainbow

lineage of jewel, glittering star of the night,

the ones that wakes with glow of the dawn

and the gloss on the lips of men like the noise of the market.

Adesewa!

I see the elephant

Elephant the tetrach of the jungle

the one who stands sturdy and alert

Elephant whom one sees and points to with ten fingers…

I see the misty cloudy

the pregnant moon jailed in blankness

daughter of the ones that

ride horse to pluck the new dawn,

get horse ready, get saddle…

Peacock, rainbow…

Adesewa!

It’s all sweetness that one encounters in the house

of the honey seller,

everlasting sweetness is the lot of the sweet potato…
