ARIKE By Deji Adeoti

Written by Editor

If a big fish sprang up from the deeps,

people see the dirt from the deeps of the river.

If you are the moon that wear tonight

I will be the sky to hold your robe.

If you become the beat on the face of Ayan Agalu’s drum

I will twist the air with my feet with dust.

If you become a rainbow for the feast of rain

I will sit like a child to count its colour on the strings of your garment.

If you turn to a song and melody on a guitar

I will learn it rhythm like mandarin tonal.

If you send me a letter

I will peruse its lines like paddle in water to sail your message into my heart.

I will pronounce your name to the faraway lands

till the world is a field of rose.
