Like a blazing comet I’ve traversed infinite nights, interstellar spaces of imagination, voluptuousness and fear – ANTONIO TABUCCHI.
Though the naked soles tread on broken thorns
Though there are no dew to strengthen our vegetables
Though the farmers don’t have access to their harvests
Though the babysitter flourishes in the goodies of baby
Though the fools are occupying the positions of the wise
Though human kingdom is tending towards the state of nature
Though tears through the eyes flow through oceans
But within the continent of the ventricle
This still voice “we shall overcome” graciously grease our stiffness.
Though the National Anthem is in song acclaimed and in act denounced
Though the National Pledge resides not in heart but in echo
Though the rogues are celebrated and the innocent afflicted
Though the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer
Though covenant chatters and commitment dashes
But our hardihood compelled us “we shall overcome”.
Allow me to look through the windows
To see the noctilucent cloud uniting with rainbow
To see the last hope of man dispensing justice
To see the community where integrity is weightier than wealth
To see the just and the unjust with their rightful appellation
To hear the ministration of cymbals.
Surely,
We shall overcome
Not as flame that dies off the road
But as fire with no respect for dried leaf
Then the line of discrepancy vivid
Between the builders and extorters.
God bless the field in green
God bless the flag in green
God bless Nigeria
God bless the whole world.
We shall surely overcome.
