GRATITUDE By AbdulHafeez T. Oyewole

Written by Editor

Waking up today like the sunset,

What fills my heart is gratitude.

For the day breaks with me in sight,

Despite the negligence in my attitude.

Have I told you I once abhor the stream

That restricts me from going extreme?

Did I tell you I averse every look,

Calling me sincerely without a hook?

For their hearts I have lived to see the day,

It’s their manners that have kept me alive.

For their prayers halt me from going astray,

It’s their good intention that brings me alive.

Had it been I was forced to agree to their way,

Had it been I was pushed callously to the bin,

Had it been I was treated like wastes with no delay,

Then, how would I have lived to atone my sin?

Thank you God, thank you my guiding angels,

For never getting tired by the daunting storm.

Thank you all, thank you for being my shells,

For saving me from perils that should have come.
