TAKE ME HOME

By Ogunwole Abdulazeez

i

To this home I belong

here, I’ll rather stay for long

filled with honey and a dandy seedlings

but hunger bombing and failed promises are

unwelcome strangers

ii

I can see confusion and disorder

as our voices clamour for change

and yet, the change is yet to come

shall we not beseech the sage?

iii

Take me home

to console the mama’s

upon our future dying in numbers

by bombs, hunger and failed promises

iv

Take me home

where readers are no longer leaders

where harvest has become priceless

and education has lost its value

v

Day upon days

night upon nights

we burn candles

and eyes opened with pains

for a better morrow

now, our pains falling to sorrow

vi

This is my home

where many are dead without graves

graduates become street hawkers

and the nay-sion is in despair

vii

This home

night is the fear of the mind

our eyes stared

watching the night termites

viii

But wait,

this home is for peace to be welcomed

calm and relax your tired mind

only for change to take a process.
