I know of a continent

Where ‘everyman’ is a sage

Where politics is business and

Campaign finance is an investment

I know of a continent where

Youths in their 20s and 30s are never qualified to be political leaders

But an octogenarian is seen fit for positions

I know of a continent where

Foreign loan is not just an option

But a compulsion to finance national budget

I know of a continent where

Active workers live in penury

While the lazy political careerists are

Subsisting in affluence

Economic woe turns the masses to analysts,

Lamenting about the prevalence of socioeconomic hardships

Days, weeks and months are passing by

Like a strand of furl lost in the storm

I know of a continent where

Election goes, election comes

Men of yesterday are still in place

Pressure groups are similitude of toothless bull dogs

I know of a continent where valuables are exchanged

For residue from others

This continent is my continent

Century upon century

Yet my continent is underdeveloped

It is a fact that we have abundance of resources

But greed is clog in our wheel

Indeed we have the wherewithal

But corruption remains a thorn in our flesh

The vague policy entrapped the intelligence of the intelligents

Weeping and yelling all

To paint the pot of rots in the land

Lamentation amidst contemplation

Writer’s cramp will not catch up with me

Hmmm! pitifully pitying my dear continent

We are the architects of our own problems.
